Eco Friendly Nail Tips

With summer finally in the air you are most likely looking forward to getting into a manicure / pedicure regimen. If you are making an effort to build in more sustainable living goals consider making some green swaps with your nail care.
Whey aren’t most manicures eco friendly?
Most manicures use products that are made with harsh chemicals and that incorporate plastics. These materials make their way into water and wild life and unfortunately are not the most friendly for our environment.
Here are 3 eco-friendly manicure swaps that you can incorporate that can help reduce the amount of harsh chemicals and plastics used during a traditional manicure.
1. DIY your cuticle oil
Cuticle oil promotes nail growth by stimulating the nail bed and moisturizing your nails. To avoid over the counter products that are made with toxins you can easily make your own using a mixture of olive oil, vitamin E oil, and a drop of your favorite essential oil.
2. Invest in nontoxic and vegan nail polish
Because most over the counter polish includes harsh chemicals their glass bottles and applicators are usually not able to be recycled. Supporting brands like BKind that use animal and eco friendly products and that may have take back programs for their reusable bottles will help ensure that your reusable glass container does not land in a harmful landfill.
3. Repurpose your polish as paint!
Are you the type of person that never uses ALL of the polish in a bottle and not sure what to do with it? Reuse it for your next paint project! Before you go dumping all of your “non economic friendly” polish while transitioning to a sustainable alternative try to reuse what you have for your next fun at home art project!
